Is it illegal to hack into someone's email/myspace?

Hi,

I have my ex boyfriend and my ex best friend (now boyfriend/girlfriend) harassing me.

They have somehow obtained (i dont think guessed) my passwords to my emails, myspace, and just about every other account I have online.

They have read my emails and even took, copied and posted my exact emails online for others to see.

I NEVER gave them permission to do any of this btw.

What can I do about this?? I dont know what to do.

They wont stop, they have read private messages between me and my friends, family, account/banking information (but havent used it yet) and businesses.

I have changed my passwords and even made up new emails... I have checked my computer for keyloggers (havent found any yet)

p.s. my boyfriend has put keyloggers on my computer before. and he knows how to hack (he works for a computer/network company)

Please, is what they have done illegal? what can I do about this? Please tell me.. and how can I stop them?

Yes, it is indeed illegal to hack into another person's account. I would suggest that you find out how to contact the cyber crimes agency and report this activity (giving them the evidence you have as well.) Then, I would suggest that you also get a good virus scan (NOT NORTON!) and a good firewall (NOT ONE YOU CAN DOWNLOAD ONLINE, THOSE ARE EASY TO CRACK) so you can scan for trojans, viruses, etc. and protect yourself against further attack.

Also, contact the company he works for and report this activity to them. If he's doing that kind of stuff, they'll fire him in a shot.

I'd also suggest a lawsuit. They are not only violating your constitutional rights to privacy, they're also harassing you and should pay the price of their actions.

yes its illegal they have accesed personal files and emails belonging to you check for trojans it a lot easier to use trojans to get passwords than key loggers since key loggers require searching some times huge text files where as a trojan can get the password out of the cokie its stored in

it might help if you'll report to cybercrime unit @ your local police station but you need evidence otherwise they won't listen to you

it is definitely illegal. here in italy we have the "polizia postale", a police department that deal exactly with these issues. since i don't know how do you deal with them in the US, i would suggest you to contact a lawyer and/or the police. they will know what to do.

wow thats really bad, i feel bad for you (Not Sarcasim) I would Contact the police imediatly. Actually Someone accross the street of me, The same thing happened to them (they live In US) they went to the police station and reported the suspects and showed them threat messages and the suspects had to go to jail for 30 years for identity theft and Personal Hacking/Installments.
